Locally owned, green to the core, and built on the simple idea that dogs deserve a safe, fun, open place to spend the day.

Our story

Born from a love of dogs — and a love of Mill Valley

In early 2008, Martha Pearl was searching for a way to combine her love of dogs with her love of the Mill Valley community and interest in helping the environment. A Marin native, Martha integrated her passion for dogs with her commitment to the environment by building a business that supports both. The result was — and is — AlphaDog Lodging, now a local institution for 18 years that cares for dogs and operates with green practices designed to leave the earth better for the next generation.

Early on, Martha collaborated with Master Trainer Mike Wombacher, who as of today has spent forty years working with dogs and completed some 40,000 private consultations. He designed the obedience, board and train, and AlphaDog Assist service dog programs, trained AlphaDog trainers, and still runs the program today.
